Women aren’t the only ones who want to get rid of pesky, unwanted hair. Men want to be fuzz-free, too. For men who desire smooth, hairless skin on their face and body, laser hair removal for men is the leading solution for getting it. Whether it’s your back, face, legs, chest, underarms, scalp, nose, or ears that you wish hair to be gone from, laser hair removal treatments for men are the surefire way to do it.
The Basics of Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal for men is a safe, effective, and long-lasting solution to remove unwanted hair on the face and body. This proven method of eliminating unwanted hair leads to softer and smoother skin without having to shave regularly, which saves time, money, and energy—a win-win!
Laser hair removal for men is suitable for all skin types and can be used on various body parts where you wish to be fuzz-free. Men appreciate the benefits of laser hair removal because it eliminates the incidence of annoying and painful ingrown hairs and razor burn. Instead, the skin remains smooth and soft with no hair removal-related blemishes.
It’s important to know that to reap the benefits of laser hair removal, multiple sessions are needed to remove all the hairs in an area, which grow at different stages. Laser hair removal for men is effective and prevents future hair growth, making it a popular choice for men seeking a permanent solution to unwanted hair.
The Benefits of Laser Hair Removal for Men
Staying regular with shaving and waxing can be bothersome for many men, so laser hair removal is a far better option. Besides the time you’ll save by not worrying about shaving, there are other reasons to consider laser hair removal for men.
- No more ingrown hairs
Ingrown hairs on the face, particularly in the beard area, can leave the skin red, irritated, and bumpy. With laser hair removal, shaving the skin is unnecessary, leaving it smooth and with no risk of irritated follicles and ingrown hairs.
- Long-lasting results
Laser hair removal provides men with a permanent option to remain fuzz-free. With each treatment, the hairs are targeted so they can no longer grow normally, eventually reducing the hair in a given area. To maintain the results, annual touch-up sessions are recommended.
- Improvement in skin texture
Shaving and waxing are quick and easy ways to remove unwanted hair but can leave the skin rough. Instead, laser hair removal encourages healthier-looking skin without any dull, bumpy texture often associated with daily shaving.
- It’s a versatile treatment
With a razor, there are only so many places on the body where you can shave. Plus, with shaving, there’s always the risk of nicks and cuts. On the other hand, laser hair removal for men can be used on various parts of the body, including the face, beard, brows, chest, back, stomach, arms, legs, buttocks, underarms, feet, nose, ears, scalp, and bikini area, making it a good option to target unwanted hair across anywhere on the body.
What to Expect During a Laser Hair Removal Session
Before you undergo laser hair removal, there’s plenty to know about it. For starters, a consultation is always recommended to ensure you are a good candidate for the treatment. While laser hair removal for men is suitable for virtually all skin types and tones, the treatment is always more effective on darker hair.
Next, you’ll want to do all the necessary prep work before your laser hair removal appointment to ensure success. Avoid the sun at all costs so that the laser can read the true color of your skin. Sun exposure and self-tanners can hinder the effects of the treatment, and the laser may not be able to target all the hairs in a given area. You’ll also want to arrive at the appointment with clean skin—no lotion, cologne, skincare, or deodorant—and shave the treatment areas the day of your treatment or the night before.
During the treatment session, you will be given safety goggles to protect your eyes. The laser handpiece will be directed to the target area, and the skin will be protected by a Dynamic Cooling Device, which sprays the area with a liquid cryogen coolant before each laser pulse, making the procedure very tolerable. The heat emitted by the laser (we use the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus laser, which is safe for all skin types, including darker skin tones) selectively absorbs any pigment (melanin) in the root of the hair to destroy permanent hair reduction. You can expect the treatment to feel similar to a rubber band snapping on the skin with a bit of a tingling sensation that quickly passes. The GentleMax Pro Plus laser is tolerable, although ice can be used to make you even more comfortable.
After, the skin may be pink or red and warm to the touch for a few hours. It’s recommended to avoid exposing the treated skin to heat, sweat, the sun, or any irritating or exfoliating skincare products or treatments so that the skin can heal properly. You’ll also want to wear loose-fitting clothes for the first few days. And, of course, never shave, wax, or tweeze the just-lasered areas, and always keep the skin well hydrated to prevent irritation and itching.
While you may notice results after your first session, anywhere from eight to twelve treatment sessions over a few months will be needed to see the full results. Not all hair follicles grow at the same rate, so it may look like the hair is still growing even if you have undergone a few treatment sessions.
The Results
With each treatment, you are one step closer to being fuzz-free. After each session, which should be scheduled about four weeks, the skin will feel and look smoother, and there will be less hair. Eventually, the hair will thin out and appear lighter until you reach optimal skin smoothness.
